Jones Family Farm
For more than 150 years, the Jones Family has worked the lands on their farm right here in Shelton. Founder Philip James Jones said "Be good to the land, and the land will be good to you," and today, this four hundred acre property offers one of the best harvest-your-own experiences with its quality crops and knowledgeable, friendly farmers. The family has welcomed guests for over forty years for blueberry picking, and during the season, which typically runs from mid-July to late August, the farm is open Tuesday through Saturday.
Founder Ben Silverman grew up loving plants and spent plenty of time gardening. In the 1920s, he founded Silverman's Farm and built a cider mill. He ran the mill for sixty years, and it was the only one in the area where visitors could watch the cider being pressed. Ben also raised potatoes, onions, plums, peaches, and so much more. Today, his son Irv runs the farm, and the current picking schedule includes blueberries, raspberries (though conditions change daily), and Ginger Gold Apples. There are several other apple varieties to choose from such as Honey Crisp, Empire, and Macon which will all be ready for picking come mid-September.
