Did you know that August 5 is National Oyster Day?
People have consumed oysters for centuries, and at one time they were an important food source in coastal areas.
Whether you like to eat your oysters raw, fried, or steamed, head to one of the following seafood restaurants:
Shell & Bones Oyster Bar and Grill
Named one of the "Best New Restaurants" by the editors of Connecticut Magazine, Shell & Bones offers the best waterfront dining in the state. Housed in a space that has been a legendary restaurant location for years, it pays homage to the area's nautical history and the dining area features clean lines and a fireplace for cool evenings. In the kitchen is award-winning Executive Chef Arturo Franco Camacho, a veteran of the Connecticut food scene, who is known for reinterpreting many classic recipes and creating new dishes. The menu includes oysters served with house mignonette, cocktail sauce, and horseradish.
Overlooking the Housatonic River, the Riverview Bistro provides picturesque views, especially from its seasonal patio. Inside, the dining room offers a modern environment complete with a bar, tables, and even a few televisions. The chefs create a menu that pleases everyone's taste using the freshest of ingredients, and they recommend pairing the oysters with a glass of Chateau Ste. Michelle Sauvignon Blanc.
This restaurant offers both fine dining and pub comfort as it features a dining room with a fireplace as well as a pub complete with casual decor. Each provides friendly service and delicious American dishes that provide fresh and unique flavors from Executive Chef Brett Keating and his staff. Try the Little Surfer that includes blue point oysters, little neck clams, jumbo shrimp, blue crabs, and lobster.
