If you're looking for something to do indoors this summer, consider exploring a museum.
There are several near The Mark Apartments that are home to interesting exhibits, such as:
Peabody Museum of Natural History
Located on the campus of Yale University, the Peabody Museum is one of the world's largest, oldest, and most prolific natural history museums. Its first building opened in 1876, and it wasn't long before it was too small to house the entire collection. A new one opened in 1924, and it features an 110-foot mural called The Age of Reptiles. Visitors can spend hours exploring exhibits which include "Hall of Native American Cultures," "Daily Life in Ancient Egypt," and "Birds of Connecticut."
Housed in a building located on the National Register of Historic Places, the Barnum Museum displays artifacts that belonged to P.T. Barnum and Tom Thumb, among others in an exhibit called "Envisioning the Future." Admission is free, and the museum is open year-round on Thursdays and Fridays, as well as on Saturdays during the summer. Visitors can also explore "Recovery in Action" that gives a glimpse into the museum's visible storage area to see thousands of objects that were removed from the historic building for both safety and conservation following a tornado in June 2010.
Yale Center for British Art
This museum displays the largest and most comprehensive collection of British art outside of the United Kingdom. It states that the collection reflects the development of British art and culture from the Elizabethan period onward, and includes sculptures, drawings, watercolors, and prints.
