New England in autumn is a beautiful place. Quintessential New England towns are dotted with red and gold, pumpkin patches are bursting with festive color and freshly picked apples are baking in some of the best pies you'll ever taste. As a matter of fact, Shelton, Connecticut is home to a fabulous farm where you can find the tastiest apples and handmade pies in the area.
Beardsley's Cider Mill & Orchard is family owned and operated, situated on land that has been farmed by the family since 1849. This land once held a dairy farm, until it was destroyed by a school bus crash in 1973. Today, Beardsley's prides itself on offering the community fresh produce and handmade baked goods, along with delicious homemade cider.
The Cider Mill retail store is open every day from August 1-December 24, 10 am- 5:30 pm. Pies are baked fresh daily, right in the Cider Mill kitchens. These delectable pies are jam-packed with fresh fruit--try a mouth-watering classic apple pie, an exquisite fruit-n-berries pie, or a rich pumpkin pie. All pies are also available frozen, so you can save it to bake fresh for an upcoming family dinner.
In addition to pies, the retail store is also well-known for its delightful homemade cider. Made from apples that are too small to sell in the store, this 100% pure juice is made with state-of-the-art equipment to ensure high-quality cider filled with flavor. You can also freeze cider--simply pour out enough cider from the jug to leave about two inches of air at the top. Remember that it will take a while to thaw, so move it to the fridge a few days before you plan to drink it. Looking for cider with a kick? Beardsley's carries untreated cider which you can use to make hard cider at home. Late October-early November is the best time to make your hard cider, as the ideal variety of apples ripen at this time.
