Is a busy work schedule taking up all of your time? Try getting a great workout somewhere new this weekend. West Rock Ridge State Park is the perfect place to go mountain biking, and it's just a few miles from The Mark Apartments. Whether you're an experienced rider or trying out mountain biking for the first time, you'll have a great time at the second largest state park in Connecticut.
Beginner mountain bikers can start on the Red Trail, a two-mile gravel loop around the base of a striking 700-foot ridge. This flat trail has just a few rocky sections, so don't worry about getting stuck on a trail that's too difficult. More advanced riders can attempt the trails off of Baldwin Road. This paved road goes to the top of the ridge and prohibits motorized vehicles, so it's the perfect access point for some of the best downhill trails in the area.
Even if biking isn't your thing, walk to the top of the ridge for incredible views of the surrounding area. Enjoy a summer sunset from the top of the ridge. Later in the year, the crisp fall weather is perfect for a hike. The constant temperature inside Judges Cave makes for a fun adventure even if it's raining. Horseback riding and fishing are also an option, so there really is something for everyone at West Rock Ridge State Park.
