The Mark apartments are conveniently located less than 5 minutes from the grocery store. However, sometimes you just want to know exactly where your food (or wine) is coming from. You want to pick your own fruit and enjoy it in the sunshine. You crave ice cream that isn't in a cardboard container. For those reasons, you will love these farms in, or near, Shelton, CT.
Robert Treat Farm has been a family owned and operated farm in Milford since 1948. Their beautiful barn houses a garden center and a farm store. At the garden store you will find beautiful shrubs, perennials, trees, and herbs for your private patio. The farm store carries local gourmet foods such as pies, cheeses, breads and good old-fashioned milk in glass bottles. You can sign up for their farm share program, which will provide you with food for your table for 12 weeks. Finally, join them on Wednesdays, starting June 29th, for a farmers' market from 3:30-6:30 pm. Pick up grass-fed meats, picked-that-day produce, fish, honey, and more. There will also be food trucks, artisans, and live music for your enjoyment.
Jones Family Farms sits on 400 acres right here in Shelton. The award-winning winery offers tastings Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 11 am until 5 pm. You can also pick your own fruits; strawberries will be ready for picking in June and blueberries are typically ready in mid-July. You can also look forward to pumpkins in the fall and Christmas trees after Thanksgiving. Finally, take advantage of their kitchen classes. The classes are usually 2 hours and center around cooking a specific ingredient from the farm such as blueberries or corn.
It's now perfect weather to stop at Wells Hollow Creamery for one of 50 flavors of homemade ice cream. Smoothies, flurries, and Italian ice are also available. Enjoy your delicious treat on the 3,000 square foot open-air patio on weekends between noon and 9, and on weekdays beginning at 3. If the weather is bad, call ahead to make sure they're open. The creamery is also a great place for birthday parties or meetings. In the fall, you can also pick your own pumpkin.
